How do you make a japanese sword?
How do you melt down the metal and form the blade, and at what temperature does the steel melt. Also, what materials will be necessary
The other guy is right, but katanas that are hand made are made by master blacksmiths and the blade consists of hundreds of tiny folds in the metal. Then with sharpining the blade...its not like an english broad sword which you can simply use a whetstone and get it razor sharp, no, you have to so with the pattern of the folds of the metal. The factory made ones are just poured into a mold I belive and lack the strength of a hand made one. Back to the question of making one, very carefuly. Katanas are thin light blades which are used to end a fight quickly and slice soft tissue easily, so while making it you can easily mess up by melting the blade accidently, giving it an uneven edge, or even break it in the process. Try to make an english broadsword first, then when you can make a high quality sword, then you can try to make the katana. Good luck.
