Why are knives in block sets more expensive than regular knives?
Those knives in the BLOCKS of wood...
Why are they real expensive and you only get 7 or 8 pieces or knives.. But then regular knives are less expensive i take it.. or huge sets with a bunch of knives but not in blocks..
Why so expensive for 7 knives in a block?
Chefs, and good cooks, depend on knives that will make the job of preparing food easier.
So, depending on how much one cooks, and how much you hate/like to cook, will depend on how expensive the knife set will be.
One needs to have a metal content that will keep a sharp blade, be well balanced when held (so you don't tire easily) and will be the right length for the job one is doing.
Sometimes the more expensive the set is, the better they are. But that isn't always the case.
Selling knives in a set, such as displayed in a 'block' is a good selling point, as all one needs is a bit of counter space for storage, and the knife of choice is handy. You will pay extra for quality, and extra for convenience. Usually.
If you are looking to buy a knife set, shop around, and handle samples so you can find out what works for you. Watch or go online to America's Test Kitchen. They test recipes and equipment. Other food channels will help you too. I like America's Test Kitchen the best though.
