What do you eat a salad with?
what do you eat a salad with? a fork? spoon? knife? spork?
i know most people would say fork...but i was at this restaurant and i ordered a salad and odd enough the lettuce was not cut for me it was just the leaves and tomatoes and croutons with a small like pitcher like thing with salad dressing in it. so the only utensil that were laid out on the table was a fork. so was i suppose to hold it and cut it with my knife and then eat it with my fork? or just eat with my fork and quit whining about it?
-sorry if you think this is stupid but i had to ask one of the waiters to give me a knife and they asked why do you need a fork? and well yeah i had troubles.
btw it was quite a fancy restaurant and it would look very strange if i started to eat like a little kid with my hands and rip the lettuce and then put it back on my plate and then eat it with a fork.

It blows my mind when restaurants do that. It's usually the fancy ones too! I'm always like, are you too lazy to break up lettuce?!
Anyway, I would have asked for a knife too if one was not provided, and I would not have been embarrassed to have asked. I would have been embarrassed if I tried to eat that monstrosity with just a fork! There's nothing worse than sitting in a restaurant sawing away at your salad with a fork, getting dressing everywhere, and then there's no way you can finish before the main course arrives because the salad has been such a project.
So yes, I vote knife. You did the right thing!
